December 2019

Here we are a week away from Christmas day…wow! Where has the year gone. Well, it’s been a wonderfully full and abundant year here at the farm. Amazing to see the seasons from seed, to the point where it makes it’s way on to tables and into anticipating mouths.

At the end of the week, or in some cases on Wednesday, we are out and about in our communities enjoying our neighbours and friends at Moss, James Bay, Saanich, and Oak Bay Markets. The stories we exchange, share, and maybe hear for the first time, a joy and delight. Thank you.

Ginger is definitely one of the most anticipated harvests for all. And this year has been amazing. All bounty has it’s season, and our Ginger season is coming to a close. Next year the plan we will be planting lots more. We have been growing Ginger for 5 years now. And on a side note, our fabulous Turmeric has been at the farm 6 seasons.

Our basil has started to flourish, and our senses are taking in the beauty and fragrance and taste. We love our basil.

Something new for us this year is propagating our own greenhouse crops. These are our Tomatoes, Peppers, and Cukes!

Thanks for; following us, stopping in to chat, asking questions, and for all of your support.

August 2015

It’s been a busy summer, and it’s not even over yet!  We’re up to our ears in zucchini, beans, cucumbers, basil, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, garlic, berries, onions, and so much more!  When we’re not harvesting, we’re keeping up with weeding and other maintenance around the farm, preparing for markets (SunTrio does 6 markets every week!) and planting up for the next round of veggies.  Right now we’re planting fall and winter veggies – carrots, beets, leeks, parsnip, rutabaga, kohlrabi, and so much more.

We’ve just started harvesting melons (multiple varieties of watermelon, honeydew, and cantaloupe!)  Come see us at one of the farmer’s markets to try a sample and decide which one you like best.  We’ll be more than happy to talk about our favourites too!

Next to come into season will be winter squash – spaghetti, acorn, delicata, pumpkins, and more.  We’ll be hauling them in from the field in about 3 weeks, and selling them through the end of summer and into the fall.

Blueberries are slowing down but aren’t gone yet, and strawberries and raspberries are still going strong!  We expect to have berries right into September.

Keep checking in with us at markets to see what’s in season, and find us on Facebook for more farm updates and photos of what we’ve been up to!

January 2015

It’s a slow time of year but we’re still working hard! Our brand new tomato, cucumber and pepper plants arrive mid-February so we are in the midst of preparing our main greenhouse for planting.

Sprouts never quit! We always have sunflower, pea, buckwheat, broccoli, and daikon radish sprouts growing, sprouted mung beans and lentils, and plenty of wheatgrass.

Greens are growing slowly but we are still sending them to markets and keeping them available in our storefront as much as possible. We currently have mixed salad greens, arugula, spinach, and baby kale (availability of all greens is weather-dependant.)

Stop by the farm and visit our 24 hour storefront for greens, sprouts, carrots, squash, homemade pesto, tomato sauce, habanero jelly, and quince jam, and frozen wheatgrass shots and strawberries. Call or email us to place orders for trays of sprouts and wheatgrass, or visit us at one of our year-round markets! You can still find us every Wednesday and Saturday at the Hudson Market, and every Saturday at the Moss Street Market.
