Fertilizers and sprays that contain harmful chemicals can place individuals at a higher risk for serious health conditions, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/foodnews\/summary.php\">cancer, leukemia, and liver damage.<\/a> In addition, the toxins present in many chemically based fertilizers and sprays may add to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondpesticides.org\/resources\/pesticide-induced-diseases-database\/birth-defects\">risk of birth defects in unborn children<\/a>. The pesticides penetrate right into the plants\u2019 cells, so no amount of washing will get those chemicals off. But even produce on the \u201cClean 15\u2033 \u2013 like eggplants \u2013 still contain pesticide residue when they are conventionally grown. Pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides <a href=\"https:\/\/www.organic-center.org\/not-skin-deep-benefits-organic-go-beyond-peel\">can\u2019t just be washed off the skin of produce,<\/a> they grow into the fruit itself. The \u201cClean 15\u201d is a list of produce with the least pesticide residue \u2013 not zero.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>It is well known that organic fruits and vegetables are <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/20359265\/\">higher in antioxidants<\/a>, however, the cause of this is not always discussed. The truth is, the very thing conventional (non-organic) farmers do to avoid disease in plants may be lowering the plants natural production of antioxidant. This is because the plant doesn\u2019t need to use its innate survival mechanisms due to the assistance of pesticides, thereby often resulting in lower antioxidant levels. The reason a fruit or vegetable might have a high level of antioxidants is because it has fended off pests and disease by itself \u2013 or with help from organic remedies.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p>In general, organic food consumers, manufactures and farmers strongly believe in organic food having following benefits over non organic food:<\/p><ul><li>Better health: Since organic food is not prepared using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, it does not contain any traces of these strong chemicals. In some instances, the difference was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedaily.com\/releases\/2003\/03\/030304073059.htm\">58.5% higher antioxidant levels.<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li>Better taste: Taste also improves or intensifies \u2013 sprayed or over-sprayed fruits and vegetables <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thekitchn.com\/its-true-organic-fruits-and-vegetables-taste-better-171698\">often taste bland.<\/a><\/li><li>Environment safety: As harmful chemicals are not used in organic farming, there is minimal soil, air and water pollution. When you purchase organically grown produce, it\u2019s not simply for your health, but to send the message that you don\u2019t support the conventional produce industry that contaminates our food and our earth.<\/li><\/ul><p>Our produce is grown using only organic methods.
